TAIPEI, TAIWAN — (Marketwire) — 02/07/12 — Advantech (TWSE: 2395.TW), a global manufacturer of network computing blades and multicore processor platforms, today announced that their Packetarium family of Network Appliance platforms will support the new state-of-the art MIPS64 family of 1 – 48 core multicore processors from Cavium (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, and the digital home. Advantech-s NCPB-2330 Network Processing Board will be based on the OCTEON III processor which provides support for the augmented Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), NEURON Search and packet processing capabilities needed in next generation cloud computing, security solutions and wireless infrastructure.
“Advantech-s new board based on OCTEON III processors will increase the performance across the entire Packetarium Network Platform family, in particular for the high-end NCP-7560 4U system, enabling much higher levels of network intelligence,” said Byron Lin, Director at Advantech-s Networks and Communications Group. “The NCPB-2330 board, with up to 48 cores and enhanced accelerators, is a natural step up for our Packetarium customers using our current 32-core OCTEON II CN6880 or 12-core OCTEON II CN5650 boards. Packetarium, our cost-effective alternative to ATCA, will have a higher-end processor board suitable for a broader range of networking applications,” continued Lin. “The enterprise networking and cloud service provider markets find its compact, cost-optimized design over ATCA particularly appealing.”
“OCTEON Processors have been featured in multiple generations of the Packetarium family and we are pleased that with our OCTEON III, Advantech will break the 100Gbps of application processing per blade barrier,” said YJ Kim, General Manager, Infrastructure Processor Group, Cavium Networks. “Advantech has a proven track record of bringing the latest and most capable Cavium technology to market and allowing major Network Appliance OEMs to deploy very high-throughput content-driven, applications rapidly.”
The OCTEON III family integrates 1 to 48 MIPS64 cores at up to 2.5GHz, providing up to 120GHz of industry-leading 64 bit compute power per chip. Multiple chips can be combined into a single logical high-performance processor using Cavium-s innovative new chip interconnect architecture. All OCTEON III-s also incorporate new dedicated hardware engines to speed search, protocol parsing and traffic management as well as enhanced cryptography, compression and deep packet inspection engines. “Policy enforcement and security are among the biggest concerns being addressed by cloud service and enterprise networking companies and this latest Packetarium board with the OCTEON III processor will allow them to build even more capabilities and advanced features into their unified application control, intrusion protection and malware detection products,” concluded Advantech-s Lin. “Our increasingly powerful and cost-effective Packetarium range provides the ideal platform for scalable security appliances and gateways.”
Early access platforms based on the NCPB-2330 will be made available in unison with the Cavium OCTEON III processor rollout. Visit these locations for more information about the and .
