SAN JOSE, CA — (Marketwire) — 01/24/12 — Quantum Corp. (NYSE: QTM), a proven global expert in data protection and big data management, today announced that its virtual server data protection appliance and family of disk backup appliances have been selected as finalists in the Backup Hardware category of Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com 2011 Products of the Year award.
The vmPRO 4000 is an all-in-one solution for simplifying backups in virtual environments. The first product to result from Quantum-s acquisition of Pancetera Software® last June, the vmPRO 4000 is designed for small and medium-size businesses (SMBs) and remote offices and integrates Quantum DXi® deduplication technology to include both backup software and storage. Its high-speed backup application writes data directly to disk, leveraging deduplication technology for long-term retention and fast restores. Following the vmPRO 4000, Quantum also introduced for the data center, enabling customers to use a single Quantum DXi-Series appliance to dramatically simplify both physical and virtual server protection.
The DXi6700 family of appliances, comprised of the DXi6701 and the DXi6702, is a high-performance, easy-to-deploy disk backup solution with deduplication and replication for NAS and Fibre Channel environments. Combining the broadest scalability and highest performance in its class, the DXi6700 provides deduplication for a wide range of IT environments. Built on Quantum-s DXi 2.0 software, the DXi6700 appliances easily scale from 8 TB to 80 TB of usable capacity in a single system and provide the fastest inline performance of any midrange-to-enterprise deduplication appliance — up to 5.8 TB/hour. Quantum has also extended the same inline deduplication architecture in the DXi6700 to both its SMB and enterprise DXi data protection offerings to deliver leading price-performance and value across every segment of the deduplication market.
In June 2011, Quantum-s DXi6000 appliances were named “Storage Product of the Year” at the 2011 : The Storries VIII. In December 2011, the vmPRO 4000 was named “Storage Virtualisation Product of the Year” at the 2011 .
“2011 was a huge year for Quantum as we expanded and refined our data protection offerings, and it was gratifying to see our products recognized with industry awards for excellence,” said Rob Clark, senior vice president, Data Protection Group, Quantum. “It is noteworthy that our products aimed at meeting the challenge of data protection in virtual environments have been so well-received by the market, and this will continue to be an area of focus for Quantum. The accolade is further testament that we-ve been able to meet the needs of end users with market-leading performance and value.”

The Backup Hardware category includes tape libraries, tape drives for backup, media, disk backup targets, virtual tape libraries (VTL), deduplication devices and gateways appliances for cloud backup. The Products of the Year winners will be announced in the February issue of Storage magazine.
