NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwire) — 01/24/12 — Comedy Central and Omnigon Communications announced the launch of the Stand-Up Showdown Facebook Application focused on the beginning of Comedy Central-s annual Stand-Up Month. The application provides fans with a social platform to engage in the process of choosing the best comedians for Comedy Central-s Friday night broadcasts.
Each week Comedy Central Facebook followers can use the app to browse through featured comedians and vote for their favorite by either “liking” or “following” that comedian-s social profile. Friday nights during the event Comedy Central will reveal that week-s top fan choices on-air. The unique part of this campaign is that it gives the viewer control of what will broadcast while also providing the comedians with an opportunity to promote their work to gain more followers.
David Nugent, Omnigon-s SVP of Business Development, said, “The content is awesome and we-re really pleased at how well this Facebook app has done already. We-re obviously really excited to work with Comedy Central on another social app.”
During the roughly two weeks that the app has been live it has gained over 200,000 likes and over 86,000 people are listed as “talking about this” on Facebook. The Twitter hashtag, #ccstandup, has more than 4,500 mentions.
Once Stand-Up Month comes to an end, the Facebook application will switch from -vote- mode to -discovery- mode. During this time the application will simplify its display to showcase one featured comedian along with a set of comedians they are following on Twitter. This will give the fans an opportunity to continuously connect with their favorite comedians through their personal social networks.
Both of Omnigon-s latest digital projects with Comedy Central have focused on the power of social media. After the success of The Charlie Sheen Roast second screen experience, Comedy Central again chose Omnigon to develop an app that knew would get a lot of traction with their stand-up fans.
“One of the main reasons why we-re so focused on these social platforms is that comedy lives on these social platforms,” commented Steve Grimes, Comedy Central-s SVP of Digital Media.
