tumblecloud Launches, Inspires Collaborative Digital Storytelling and Multimedia Sharing

SANTA BARBARA, CA — (Marketwire) — 01/24/12 — tumblecloud today announces the public availability of its beta site, tumblecloud.com, a new social destination for digital storytelling. The cloud-based site gives people a dynamic hub for multimedia creation, where they can pull in fragmented media content — uploaded from personal devices, stored on social networks, shared with friends, etc. — and interact, manipulate and thread together their media files in a new way.

Supporting all types of multimedia content, tumblecloud offers a place for individuals, people and communities to tell, share, co-edit, and co-create digital stories. Users simply sign up, upload their digital files — audio, video, images, and text files, as well as PDFs, Word documents and spreadsheets — and begin their multimedia portfolio creation. Users can also connect with others to share content, or sift through tumblecloud-s royalty-free content libraries, which host user-uploaded multimedia content, offering a way for finding images, songs, and videos that they need to create their story. Within tumblecloud, users interact with their media on a virtual workbench, optimized for seamless content creation with its host of multimedia tools for digital manipulation: drag and drop, visual sequencing, placeholder tags, and video/audio editing features for real-time collaboration. Additionally, tumblecloud can be accessed from any web-enabled device, providing real-time, on-the-go access for users to collaborate anytime, from anywhere in the world.

“With so many multimedia devices and apps designed for content creation — for photo/video album sharing, slideshow editing, music writing — people are capturing the world around them in more ways than ever before, yet their media remains incredibly fragmented,” says Brian Andreas, founder and creator behind tumblecloud. “With tumblecloud, we wanted to create a space for people to easily pull all their media into one integrated place, so they can connect, share, and co-create digital stories, building community, together.”

tumblecloud simplifies and enables digital publishing for the everyman, as its intuitive interface offers different users and communities — families, journalists, activists, small business owners, musicians, teams, teachers — an open format to share and connect.. For example, architect Michelle Kaufmann can connect in real time with her clients on everything from the design process to the final installation, while musician Gabriel Quinn and photographer Jessica Lehrman are able to collaborate on portraits of the Occupy movement, even though they-re on separate coasts. Inspired by concepts of trans-media, trans-community and cross-pollination, users can embed direct links to their creative projects into web sites, emails, social networks, and other digital platforms.

“Although the digital revolution has opened up a new world of storytelling possibilities, the creative process has remained largely the same — writers write articles, photographers take pictures, filmmakers make movies, and graphic artists are still creating standalone designs,” says Scott London, journalist, educator and professional photographer. “tumblecloud is the first platform I-ve seen that allows the community to think in entirely new ways about how we communicate ideas, tell stories and create shared meaning.”

The public beta of tumblecloud can be accessed today by visiting . tumblecloud is the brainchild of designer and CCO Brian Andreas, of fame, and was founded in 2009.

tumblecloud is a destination for collaborative digital storytelling, where users and communities alike can connect to easily arrange, display, co-create, co-edit, share, and manipulate multimedia content. Designed to allow people to collaborate online the way they would in person, tumblecloud converts multimedia files into cloud-stored objects for digital publishing that can be manipulated easily from anywhere, on any device, by operating on a proprietary low-overhead XML schema. Inspired by the power of storytelling and by Fishbon, an art and technology collective in Santa Barbara, tumblecloud was launched in beta in 2012 by designer, artist, and storyteller Brian Andreas.
