GainSpan Low Power Embedded Wi-Fi Achieves Two New Wi-Fi Alliance(R) Certifications

SAN JOSE, CA — (Marketwire) — 01/18/12 — ® Corporation, a leading developer of ultra-low power embedded Wi-Fi solutions, today announced it has received two new certifications from the ®: its GS1500M 802.11 b/g/n module was awarded the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED seal of approval and its GS1011M modules have earned the latest Wi-Fi Protected Set-up (WPS) 2.0 certification. The new certifications highlight GainSpan-s continued commitment to bringing to market industry interoperable standards-based products.

The 802.11b/g/n GS1500M module is Wi-Fi CERTIFIED for WPA and WPA2 as well as WMM® and all EAP types including EAP-TTLS, PEAPv0, PEAPv1 and EAP-FAST. Wi-Fi certification ensures the GS1500M meets IEEE 802.11 industry standards for interoperability, security, ease of installation and reliability. WPA2-Enterprise indicates that the GS1500M meets the criteria established to ensure stronger data protection for larger corporate networks, as it uses a Radius server to generate an encryption key per session. This certification speeds time to market, minimizes risk and reduces costs for customers developing embedded Wi-Fi enabled devices. Certification of the GS1500M follows receipt of the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED seal of approval of GainSpan-s ultra-low power GS1011M modules based reference design.

GainSpan also announced that it has successfully completed certification of its GS1011M modules for WPS 2.0, the Wi-Fi Alliance-s latest enhanced specification that makes it easy for Wi-Fi client devices to associate and authenticate to an access point. Certification for this enhanced specification ensures GainSpan customers that devices and appliances using the GS1011M modules are easy to provision and can securely attach to WPS certified Access Points (AP), which represent the majority of the installed base of APs and most, if not all, the APs shipping today.

GainSpan-s GS1011M WPS 2.0 offers customers both push-button and PIN code implementations, allowing users to set up a protected wireless network with ease. Other GainSpan provisioning options include peer-to-peer embedded web server provisioning.

“These latest Wi-Fi Alliance certifications, including the fact that our GS1011M modules are among the first products to be certified for the Wi-Fi WPS 2.0, are strong testaments to our leadership in the low power Wi-Fi community and commitment to bring highly interoperable products to our customers,” said Bernard Aboussouan, vice president of marketing, GainSpan. “These certifications will accelerate the adoption of low power Wi-Fi technology across a wide range of applications, such as the Internet of Things.”

GainSpan-s certified modules offer a quick, easy and cost effective way for device and appliances manufacturers to add Wi-Fi capabilities to their products. All modules are pin to pin compatible: the GS1500M provides leading-edge 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity with speeds up to 72 Mbps, while the GS1011M offers 802.11b connectivity with speeds up to 11 Mbps, and a number of options of antenna and power amplifiers for range and power consumption optimization. The modules provide serial interface (UART, SPI) to an 8/16/32-bit host microcontroller and use simple AT commands.

Both the GS1500M and the GS1011M modules can be purchased from GainSpan-s online store at
