MILPITAS, CA — (Marketwire) — 01/12/12 — Vuclip, the world-s largest independent mobile video service, today ripped open the envelope on its first annual Clippie Awards.
With over 500 million videos watched on Vuclip every month, some must rise to the top. Vuclip-s first-ever Clippie awards celebrates those clips that stood out in a banner year for mobile video.
Judith Coley, VP of Marketing at Vuclip, said, “Our highly engaged consumer base provides a wealth of insights on what-s hot in mobile video. This was a chance to give them the ultimate call on the top clips of 2011.”
Vuclip took a wide array of popular categories and put up three nominees in each for consumers to choose from. The company also calculated the most-watched clips in those same categories.
Based on user votes cast in over 200 countries, the Clippies go to…
Globally, “The Mario Fail” took home the top prize for Funniest Clip while “iPhone 5 Concept Features” won in the technology category. In the US, it was no surprise to see “Breaking Dawn, Pt. 1” suck the life out of the competition in the Best Hollywood Trailer category. Popular songstress Adele won best music video for “Rolling in the Deep.” In India, the winner of Best Sports Clip garnered the most votes of any nominee in “Sehwag gets a 200, does a Sachin & more.” In Venezuela, where soccer rules, “Vinotinto vs Chile – Euroelvis” nabbed the title of Best Sports Clip. Coley added, “Vuclip-s vast library of local and global content produced some worthy nominees. After we tallied the votes, a fascinating blend of news-worthy clips, viral advertisements, and celeb-related content took the Clippies.”
Many of the videos chosen by our users were also the most watched clips on Vuclip. Adele-s “Rolling in the Deep” was the most watched music video on mobile in 2011 and “iPhone 5 Concept Features” was the most-viewed technology related clip. Harrowing raw tsunami footage from Japan provided by AP was the most watched news video. There were a few categories where votes didn-t mesh with most-watched. For example, the most watched movie trailer in the U.S. was not “Breaking Dawn, Pt. 1.” Instead, the trailer for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1” conjured up the most views.
