OTTAWA — (Marketwire) — 11/14/11 — For the third year and running, OnConference raised funds and boosted awareness for the Causeway Work Centre-s 2011 Holiday Card Campaign, a local philanthropic initiative to empower individuals overcoming disabilities and mental health issues.
The Holiday Card Campaign, which was established in 2000, is among the Causeway Work Centre-s major fundraisers.
Causeway is a nonprofit agency which aids residents facing physical and mental disabilities with job search and employment opportunities, helping them live more independently.
Not only does OnConference support this local charity, staff members regularly attend the launch party each year. During this year-s launch party on Tuesday, Nov. 8, participants were encouraged to purchase packs of seasonal cards featuring the artwork of local Ottawa artists. Also featured at the kick-off event was a silent auction with prizes from GCTC, Ottawa senators and local businesses.
“It feels good to be involved with a local event that makes a significant impact, both financially and socially, on our city,” says Jerry Everett of OnConference. “The Causeway Foundation creates economic opportunities for those who are disadvantaged and its efforts are entrepreneurial in nature. Helping these individuals to find jobs and to lead more independent lives supports the Ottawa economy.”
“The cause not only assists these individuals, it is improving our city in the long run. Really, it-s a win-win,” Everett says.
Many of OnConference-s fellow Ottawa-based businesses also participated in the Causeway charity. “It is really important to us that we support our community locally, and that we promote causes our customers are interested in,” Everett says. The Causeway foundation gives OnConference a chance to advocate for a charity its staff members are passionate about, as well as continue to build relationships with customers and the community.
