NTT DATA is majority owned by NTT (Nippon Telegram Telegraph) which is the second largest telecom globally. This stable ownership allowed for large cash investments to be made for innovation, acquisition and organic growth.
In 2007 NTT DATA started an acquisition spree with an Indian outsourcing specialist in quality assurance and development: Vertex Software, now operating as . Between 2007 and the present, they acquired companies including notables such as: Itelligence AG, Cirquent GmbH, Intelligroup, Inc., and Keane International.
These purchases and other investments have allowed NTT DATA to move from the 15th largest in 2007 to 7th largest in 2010. (Gartner – Dec 3, 2010)
