PANAMA CITY, FL — (Marketwire) — 10/06/11 — ®, a provider of simplified solutions for medical device integration, announced today that Children-s of Alabama will implement iSirona-s device connectivity solution. Based in Birmingham, Children-s of Alabama will use iSirona-s software to streamline the delivery of medical device data into its Allscripts EMR, virtually eliminating the need for manual transcription by clinicians.
Recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for its excellence in nursing care, Children-s of Alabama is the only medical center in Alabama dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children. The hospital will begin its connectivity efforts with 131 beds in its critical care units, collecting data from over 300 ventilators, pumps and monitors.
“We were very impressed by the flexibility iSirona affords us in varying clinical environments and their respective workflows,” explains Pam Atkins, division director, IT and HIPAA security. “This approach provides us with cost-effective options around configuration, as well as ease around implementation.”
“Children-s of Alabama has a strong reputation of providing excellent care for children,” says Peter Witonsky, president of iSirona. “We are pleased to partner with Children-s in their mission. iSirona-s device connectivity will help lighten clinicians- documentation tasks and allow them to get back to what they do best: delivering direct patient care.”
Children-s of Alabama is scheduled to go live in November of 2011.
Currently celebrating its 100th anniversary, Children-s of Alabama is a private, 275-bed, not-for-profit hospital that serves as the primary site of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) pediatric medicine, surgery, research and residency programs. Ten of its divisions — pulmonology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology, neonatology, cancer, cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology and nephrology — were recently ranked in the Top 50 Children-s Hospital Programs by US News & World Report. The hospital is currently undergoing an almost $400 million expansion scheduled to open in August of 2012.
