LITTLETON, MA — (Marketwire) — 09/12/11 — The Board of Directors of TeraDiode, a high power laser manufacturer, named Parviz Tayebati, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer and Board member of TeraDiode. “We are pleased and fortunate to welcome Parviz to TeraDiode,” said Lee Barbieri, Board member and Managing Partner of Stata Venture Partners. “Parviz has an outstanding track record in leading startup companies and commercializing photonic technologies into large successful companies.”
Prior to joining TeraDiode, Parviz was chairman, CEO, and co-founder of AZNA Corporation, which specialized in telecommunication lasers; AZNA was acquired by Finisar Corporation in 2007. He also founded and was CEO of CoreTek, Inc., which pioneered tunable photonic products for the telecommunications industry; CoreTek was acquired by Nortel Networks in 2000.
TeraDiode-s patented high power direct diode laser technology is based on a breakthrough in wavelength beam combining pioneered by TeraDiode co-founders Dr. Bien Chann and Dr. Robin Huang at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. This discovery made ultra high brightness, high-power direct diode lasers possible for the first time. TeraDiode holds the exclusive license for this technology from MIT and is building its own base of innovative intellectual property. The company has already demonstrated lasers that cut and weld steel plates.
Parviz stated, “The ultra high brightness wavelength beam combining technology of TeraDiode has unparalleled potential in a range of photonics markets. I am excited to lead this exceptional team in realizing this potential, especially in industrial and defense applications.”
Parviz received a B.S. with first class honors from the University of Birmingham, England, a Master-s Degree in theoretical physics from the University of Cambridge, and Ph.D. in Quantum Electronics from the University of Southern California. He serves on the board of several private companies, charitable and entrepreneurial organizations.
TeraDiode is the leader in developing direct diode laser technology for military and industrial applications. The company-s technology, pioneered at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, has broken all records for combined power and beam quality from a direct diode laser. Many experts consider direct diode lasers to be the future of the laser industry. TeraDiode is backed by an investment from Stata Venture Partners. More information about TeraDiode can be found at .
