NASHUA, NH — (Marketwired) — 08/31/17 — Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2017 Advanced and Predictive Analytics Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. Advanced and predictive analytics includes the use of statistics, modeling, machine learning, and data mining to analyze facts and make predictions about future or otherwise unknown events. The 4th annual report examines changing user perceptions and plans for deployment as well as current and future industry capabilities in this important and developing area.
In 2017, the perceived criticality of advanced and predictive analytics declined slightly over the previous two years. However, it has remained at minimum “important” to more than 70 percent of respondents across four years of study.
“Organizations view advanced and predictive analytics as an extension of their existing BI efforts, and these users are confident in their BI execution and ability to act on data,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. “We see advanced and predictive analytics as an essential ingredient to any business intelligence strategy.”
Respondents expressed interest in a broad range of feature requirements for advanced and predictive analytics. Regression models, textbook statistic functions, and clustering are the most important analytics features/functions for users. Business intelligence experts, business analysts, and statisticians/data scientists are the greatest early adopters of advanced and predictive analytics.
Industry sentiment toward advanced and predictive analytics grew strongly in 2017. As is characteristic of an emergent and dynamic technology market, industry respondents indicate strong support for basic functionality, such as textbook statistics and regression models, with more limited support for advanced features.
Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market.
