NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwired) — 10/17/16 — , the global leader for data centers, international Internet exchanges and managed IT services, celebrates the 20th anniversary of its International Peering Exchange in New York.
New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX) was founded in 1996. It is one of the largest public peering exchange points on the US East Coast. The mission of NYIIX is to provide the Internet community with a neutral and scalable peering infrastructure, and assure reliability and stable Internet connectivity.
Following an upgrade to a new Centillion platform in 2015, NYIIX members have been experiencing an enhanced capacity and a more redundant infrastructure. The NYIIX membership base has been consistently growing from day one, and currently exceeds 150 members.
In line with the overall business growth, the peering traffic through NYIIX has been steadily rising. Reports show the current traffic peaking at over 400 Gigabits per second. The company has seen a growing number of 100G requests from new or the existing members. “Exceeding 400 Gigabits per second of traffic is the result of our continuing ability to increase NYIIX members along with their increasing traffic volume,” says Akio Sugeno, Vice President, Internet Engineering, Operations and Business Development. “Such an accomplishment proves that NYIIX is one of the most important IXPs in the United States.”
“We congratulate TELEHOUSE on this important milestone and are pleased to have further extended our relationship with them, specifically during this significant year,” said Kyle Okamoto, Chief Network Officer for Verizon Digital Media Services. “We look forward to continuing to work with them to meet the rising demand for dependable, quick Internet access.”
