SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/20/16 — Using apps or recommendation sites is common practice for those trying to find restaurants in a local or new and unfamiliar area. But navigating these apps and sites if you–re paleo, gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, low-carb or simply a healthy eater can be challenging. Applying filters based on dietary preference, location and price is a great start — and one that 50,000 users have loved about so far — but the fact is, you often get the best recommendations from real-time conversations with a friend or even the concierge. With the integration of a chatbot into Tasteful, users can now interact by texting with the app — explaining in their own words what they–re in the mood to eat and being given recommendations in real-time — just as they would with a live person. Also starting today, people can add the Tasteful chatbot to their Facebook Messenger, Telegram and accounts so they don–t have to leave their chats to discover restaurants with their friends and family.
Finding restaurants just got easier! Chat w/ new @tastefulapp #bot & find healthy restaurants nearby! #chatbots #paleo #vegan #glutenfree
Developed by the Tasteful team, the chatbot works as a conversational agent, designed to simulate an intelligent conversation with the end user. By telling the bot what users are in the mood for, they will be presented with restaurants that match those preferences. Throughout the conversation, users can tell the chatbot their dietary preferences, price range, location, cuisine type, quality, and even cravings, to determine where they should dine. The bot will then provide a few restaurant recommendations and give the user the opportunity to respond whether the options are too expensive, too far, or if they found the right restaurant!
“Chatbots are an opportunity for apps to become more communicative with their users and provide them with quicker, more personalized answers,” said Eswar Priyadarshan, CEO and co-founder, Tasteful. “By interacting with the bot in a conversational manner within the Tasteful app, as well as in other messaging apps, users are able to drill down and hone in on preferences to get to the exact type of food or restaurant they are looking for. And, if the user is interested in making a reservation or even having the meal delivered, our bot can help with that too.”
Tasteful is ideal for health-conscious people who are traveling, attending or hosting a business dinner, planning a date night, or meeting with friends and family. The app rates each restaurant based on the quality of its food ensuring the restaurants are using real food ingredients and not products from factory farming, GMO food and/or processed ingredients and will let the user know which category it falls into.
In addition to this new chat feature, Tasteful has significantly expanded its coverage of food allergies and ingredients. The improvements were inspired by speaking with hundreds of people at SXSW in March, who identified with this problem and requested more specific filters that matched individually diets.
