EL DORADO HILLS, CA — (Marketwired) — 01/26/16 — The , a global non-profit organization focused on developing standards that help expedite time to market for products that involve multicore and manycore implementations, announced today that Micrium, Inc. has joined the consortium as a working group member, specifically to participate in the new (OpenAMP) working group. This working group will manage and expand the OpenAMP Framework that will enable developers to deal with the challenges associated with controlling systems comprised of multiple operating systems and compute elements.
“With 20+ years of experience in the RTOS business, Micrium recognizes the requirements in asymmetric multicore systems for handling multiple operating systems,” said Multicore Association President, Markus Levy. “Micrium has already implemented an initial version of OpenAMP, and we are fortunate that they are bringing that experience into our OpenAMP working group.”
“The Multicore Association has a decade-long history of developing and driving industry-standard specifications into multicore system designs,” said Christian Légaré, Micrium–s executive vice president and CTO. “We look forward to participating in this organization to help drive the OpenAMP framework and formally standardize it as an open source project, while simultaneously allowing us to develop proprietary implementations around the standard to optimize for specific multicore platforms.”
OpenAMP strengthens Micrium–s real time operating system (RTOS) solution on multicore SoCs. OpenAMP enables Micrium–s product portfolio to target high-end multicore designs combining a variety of high-level operating systems and RTOSes using a portable cross-platform API over a standardized protocol. Developers can leverage Micrium–s multicore technology to increase performance, reduce power usage and improve the safety and security for their applications.
The Multicore Association provides three levels of , with executive board, working group, and university members. The executive board helps determine the overall direction of the organization. Working group and university members are eligible to participate on any of the working groups.
The Multicore Association provides a neutral forum for vendors interested in, working with, and/or proliferating multicore-related products, including processors, infrastructure, devices, software, and applications. The consortium has made freely available its Multicore Communications API (MCAPI) Multicore Resource Management API (MRAPI), and Multicore Task Management (MTAPI) specifications, as well as its Multicore Programming Practices (MPP) guide and Software/Hardware Interface for Multi-Many Core (SHIM).
