SAN DIEGO, CA — (Marketwired) — 07/28/15 — Tricopian, a San Diego, California-based developer of the innovative FuelRod mobile device charger, announces that Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is the latest location to offer the company–s innovative program to travelers.
Twelve FuelRod “SwapBox” kiosks are now located throughout the airport and can be found in every terminal as well as the International Arrivals Hall and baggage claim areas. The FuelRod “SwapBox” provides travelers with ready-to-use, mobile chargers that eliminate the need for electrical outlets.
The rechargeable FuelRods are small portable chargers that deliver up to 8 hours of talk time for an AppleĀ® or Android smartphone or nearly 4 hours of usage for a tablet. When power is depleted, the FuelRods can be exchanged free of charge at a FuelRod SwapBox self-serve kiosk for a fresh, fully fueled, ready-to-use charger.
“The FuelRod program is a welcomed option for our busy travelers,” said James Tyrrell, Deputy Director of Aviation for PHL. “We–re proud to be celebrating Philadelphia–s –History of Innovation– this summer, and the FuelRod automated kiosks help to advance our goal of bringing the latest technology and convenience to the airport.”
This year marks the 75th anniversary of commercial service at PHL. In 1940 the airport served 40,000 passengers. Today, more than 30 million passengers travel annually to 131 destinations around the world.
“When we first heard about the FuelRod program, we were instantly interested,” said Mel Hannah, Vice President/General Manager of Marketplace Philadelphia. “We have over 170 retail stores and restaurants here at PHL. The FuelRod kiosks throughout the airport give our tech-savvy travelers more time to shop, dine, relax and stay connected with family, friends and the office without the need to be tied to an electrical outlet.”
FuelRod chargers are priced at just $20 each with free unlimited exchanges. Each FuelRod Kit includes connectors for both Android and Apple-based devices. Once used, the FuelRod charger can be recharged using any standard USB outlet. It can also be quickly exchanged at any FuelRod SwapBox kiosk for a fresh, fully fueled, ready-to-use charger.
“We–re very excited to have our FuelRod kiosks at PHL,” said Tricopian co-founder, Joe Yeagley. “We–ve enjoyed working with PHL and the staff from Marketplace to implement the FuelRod program. As a frequent flyer myself, I was often frustrated trying to find electrical outlets at airports to charge my smartphone. The response to our FuelRod mobile chargers has been remarkable, and we look forward to many more SwapBox installations in airports domestically and abroad.”
