OTTAWA, ONTARIO — (Marketwired) — 04/21/15 — CANARIE, a vital component of Canada–s national digital infrastructure supporting research, education and innovation, today announced $105 million in new funding for the period 2015 – 2020, following the presentation of the Government of Canada–s Economic Action Plan 2015 in the House of Commons.

Ubiquitous digital technologies and an accelerating rate of data creation have made advanced digital infrastructure and tools essential for Canadians who use them to create new knowledge, processes and businesses. This funding decision acknowledges the continually changing landscape in research, education and innovation and the need for ongoing investments to ensure Canada remains competitive.

CANARIE moves into its next mandate with an overarching goal of strengthening Canada–s digital infrastructure ecosystem. The components of the ecosystem include data, networks, compute facilities and software, and CANARIE will work with partners delivering these components to strengthen the alignment and integration among them.
