REDWOOD CITY, CA — (Marketwired) — 04/13/15 — , a leader in big data analytics for the electricity and energy industry, today launched the third version of its Energy Data Platform (EDP), which provides utilities with a dynamic, real-time portrait of their power systems and connected assets. EDP 3.0 now includes applications for customer engagement, grid operation and revenue assurance and has expanded its core tools, platform services, analytics, big data and data science capabilities.
These new applications and improvements will help utilities use their smart grid and other data to improve customer engagement, enhance grid reliability and increase profitability.
“Software solutions and analytics that drive new forms of digital engagement with customers, support new types of business initiatives, and make grid operations more efficient and reliable are critical for energy service providers, and we are partnering with our clients to deliver these types of big data applications,” said Raj Pai, AutoGrid–s global head of products.
E.ON, one of the world– leading power and gas companies, will be among the first utility service providers to deploy EDP 3.0.
“The new applications and enhancements in the EDP 3.0 platform will help us strengthen relationships with our customers, enhance our understanding of the real-time state of our electric grids, and deploy energy intelligence solutions,” said Susana Quintana-Plaza, senior vice president technology & innovation at E.ON. “We expect EDP 3.0 to play an important role in our company–s efforts to address the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities in today–s global electricity market.”
EDP 3.0–s enhancements include:
New applications for customer engagement, predictive asset maintenance and revenue assurance added to EDP–s existing suite of applications for demand response, software defined power plants and real-time distribution level forecasting.
Expanded support for forecasting, optimization, classification, pattern recognition and other data science algorithms that use large amounts of fast streaming data from connected grid assets to solve energy industry problems.
An ultra-fast and scalable real-time data platform capable of ingesting more than 500 million data records per minute and generating over 100 million forecasts per day on a medium size computer cluster.
Expanded support for:
Two way connectivity standards, including OpenADR2.0a/b, Smart Energy Profile 2.0, and other Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) network protocols.
A wide range of energy Internet devices such as smart thermostats, connected lighting, HVAC systems, Electric Vehicles and EV chargers, energy storage systems, solar power inverters, and other Internet of Things (IoT) assets.
Wholesale market interfaces such as ERCOT and CAISO.
Integrated rules and workflow engines to easily configure and deploy new applications.
Enhanced visualization capabilities through integration with third party frameworks.
Expanded support for deployment on private clouds and data centers.
Expanded support for demand response initiatives driven by critical peak pricing, direct load control or bring-your-own-thermostat (BYOT) utility mandates.
Improvements to the EDP 3.0 data model will also enable utilities to perform fast real-time, geo-spatial and temporal queries, conduct complex “what-if” analysis and implement real-time predictive control of connected assets. These capabilities provide utilities with the dispatch grade intelligence they need to respond quickly to external events, make better operating and maintenance decisions, initiate real-time predictive control actions and gain insight into customer behavior and grid performance.
AutoGrid transforms data into the cleanest, cheapest source of power. The company–s Energy Data Platform (EDP) leverages petabytes of data to accurately forecast near-term power demand and thereby allow utilities, communities, business users and individuals to fine-tune power consumption and costs.
Utilities such as E.ON, Bonneville Power Administration, Oklahoma Gas & Electric, Austin Energy and the City of Palo Alto Utilities are using AutoGrid–s big data analytics technology to improve the reliability and productivity of their operations. AutoGrid technology is also embedded in software products from leading vendors, such as Schneider Electric, Silver Spring Networks and NTT Data.
