EDMONTON, ALBERTA — (Marketwired) — 04/06/15 — TELUS intends to invest $4.2 billion in new infrastructure and facilities across Alberta through 2018, including $1 billion this year alone. When combined with operational expenses, this will bring the total TELUS investment in Alberta over the next four years to more than $11 billion. This significant investment will result in TELUS having invested more than $45 billion in Alberta since 2000 to further extend advanced telecommunications infrastructure and healthcare services, ensuring sustained innovation and fueling economic growth.
“TELUS– commitment to improve the lives of Albertans by providing the world–s most advanced communications technology is unwavering,” said Darren Entwistle, TELUS Executive Chair. “TELUS networks now reach 99 per cent of the province, making Alberta one of the most connected places on the planet. Over the next four years, TELUS will invest $4.2 billion to link homes, hospitals, clinics, doctors and pharmacists, schools, libraries and municipal governments directly to our fibre optic network, bringing advanced broadband services to rural and urban communities. This will give more Albertans access to world-class education programmes, economic development opportunities and critical healthcare solutions in their homes, at work or when they are on the move with their smartphone or tablet. TELUS also continues construction on our new $400 million TELUS Sky office building in Calgary, further supporting the local economy by creating and sustaining jobs and opportunity.”
“TELUS is showing confidence in the Alberta economy, and creating the jobs and infrastructure people will rely on for years to come,” said Premier Jim Prentice. “We appreciate the company–s commitment to growth, and their ability to bring the best technology to Albertans– doorsteps.”
Mr. Entwistle concluded, “TELUS– dedication to Alberta and its citizens and communities extends well beyond our investments in operations and infrastructure. Since 2000, TELUS has remitted income, payroll, property and other taxes totalling more than $667 million to provincial and municipal governments in Alberta, supporting critical social services in communities across the province. Moreover, TELUS and our 14,000 team members, community board members and retirees who live and work in Alberta have been active with their hearts and hands across the province, donating more than $109 million and working nearly 1.7 million volunteer hours with charitable organizations since 2000.”
