TP-LINK Canada Launches Smartphone App for Configuring and Managing Routers

TORONTO, ONTARIO — (Marketwired) — 10/16/14 — TP-LINK Canada Inc. today announced the launch of Tether, an iOS and Android mobile device app for accessing and managing supported TP-LINK routers. Tether provides a simple, intuitive interface, for easy configuration and management of router resources, such as setup and network mapping, privileges, and parental controls – all from the convenience of a mobile device.

Tether can designate which devices get to control the router as administrators and which ones are managed devices that can be configured for Internet and network access on a set schedule. Parents will appreciate the ability to setup a URL-based white list of safe websites and can schedule specific times for access by their children.

Stream Media to Devices

Tether is a Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) certified device, enabling the easy sharing of media files over a home Wi-Fi network. When a USB drive is connected to a supported TP-LINK router, Tether allows the easy streaming of movies, music and photos to iOS and Android devices. Users will enjoy the flexibility of media streaming at the time of their choosing, without the need to take up valuable storage space on their client devices.

Simplified Router Management

Router-management is simplified with Tether, including editing of the admin password, toggling between 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and simultaneous dual-band, viewing WAN settings, and changing wireless settings, such as the security encryption level, SSID, and SSID passphrase.

Tether Compatibility

Tether is compatible with iPhones, iPod Touch and iPad devices running iOS 5.1 or later, as well as Android devices running Gingerbread 2.3.3 or later, and is available on Apple–s App Store and the Google Play Store.

Four TP-LINK routers currently support the Tether app, while legacy devices will be given support through future firmware updates made available on the TP-LINK corporate website.

“TP-LINK–s Tether App provides the easiest way to access, manage and share router resources with iOS and Android devices, says Mark Macaulay, director of sales for TP-LINK Canada. “Tether offers a simple, intuitive user interface on your router–s status, as well as for seeing who is online and designated network privileges.”

Macaulay adds, “Users will appreciate the ability to easily stream movies, music and photos from a router-connected USB drive onto a mobile device.”
