extends the capabilities of by providing room-level temperature control and putting an end to heating and cooling empty rooms. The system consists of three components:
Climate sensors designed to fit any electrical outlet,
Intelligent wireless vents that adjust to the real-time temperature,
And an intuitive mobile app for the iOS and Android platforms.
Anyone can install ecovent. Just plug in a sensor in each room, replace existing vents with ecovents, and connect to a wireless network. The mobile app guides homeowners every step of the way. Once the system is installed, the app enables users to set the optimal temperature for every room, and the system automatically opens and closes vents to send airflow just where it–s needed.
Before ecovent, installing a room-level zoning system was an expensive and invasive process that could last for days. ecovent is designed to be easy enough for anyone to install, but robust enough to meet the standards of HVAC contractors and other industry pros.
Developed at MIT, ecovent applies aeronautical engineering principles to optimize airflow and preserve HVAC system integrity. It also adjusts to changes in the home and learns from users– input over time.
“When you look at the technology that goes into any other appliance, the way we heat and cool our homes today is just unacceptable. We built ecovent to change that,” said Dipul Patel, founder and CEO, ecovent “We–re incredibly excited to launch it today with the backing of an amazing group of investors who could not be more supportive of our vision.”
ecovent has brought together a world class group of investors including Otter Consulting and Semyon Dukach. Semyon–s investment is through Boston Syndicates (BOSS), a syndicate group founded by Atlas Venture to invest in local startups through AngelList. Also investing in ecovent are noted angel investors, Stewart Alsop, Julia Austin, Will Herman, Warren Katz and Michael Mark.
“Dip and the ecovent team have the experience, the passion, and the perseverance to build a big business, save tons of energy, and make millions of people significantly more comfortable in their homes,” said Semyon Dukach, Managing Director, Techstars Boston. “It–s been a pleasure mentoring them and I look forward to seeing ecovent reinvent an industry that has gone unchanged for years.”
