VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA — (Marketwired) — 11/05/13 — Simba Technologies Inc., industry-s choice for standards-based relational and multi-dimensional data connectivity, announced today the release of SimbaEngine SDK 9.2 for easy development of ODBC, JDBC, OLE DB or ADO.NET data connectivity to both SQL-enabled and non-SQL data stores. The SimbaEngine SDK 9.2 is the foundation development environment and toolkit for creating robust and compliant custom drivers for connecting all Relational, Cloud and Big Data sources to BI and reporting tools like Excel, Tableau, SAP BusinessObjects, QlikView and others.
It allows Data source providers, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and Enterprise customers to create their own custom drivers, and is also the foundation used by Simba to create drivers for our growing list of Cloud, Relational, Hadoop and NoSQL Big Data OEM customers, such as the Hive ODBC drivers from companies like Cloudera, DataStax, HortonWorks, Intel, MapR, and Microsoft.
SimbaEngine SDK 9.2 Highlights:
Kerberos Support
The SDK will now support Kerberos integration for C++ and Java based drivers. This allows drivers built using the SDK to better integrate into existing security configurations, while improving the overall inherent security of the drivers.
Enhanced Indexes
The SDKs internal SQL Engine is now able to make more efficient use of indexes present in the data stores to greatly speed up operations such as joins and filters. This means that the SQL Engine will be better able to take advantage of your data store capabilities to more efficiently compute the results of queries, which will result in less memory used and less time spent waiting for results.
Other recent additions to the SDK that have been enhanced are its optimized memory management functions and streaming capability for JDBC batched operations which allow for more concurrent queries in the SQL Engine and faster and more efficient JDBC batch operations.
Simba Technologies co-developed ODBC with Microsoft in 1992 and it has been the flagship API for SQL ever since. ODBC is the most common data interface used by applications such as Alteryx, Microsoft Excel, Tableau, SAP BusinessObjects Crystal Reports and countless others.
“Working with Simba and their SimbaEngine SDK allowed RainStor to focus on our core competency of building the world-s most efficient database, and let Simba handle the high performance connection to all the apps we need to support,” said Kevin Crook RainStor VP Product Development. “We reviewed multiple approaches and vendors in the market and in the end Simba was the best choice for us, delivering high performance at the right price.”
Drivers built upon the SimbaEngine SDK driver development framework comply with the latest ODBC 3.52 data standard, JDBC 3.0 and 4.0 standards and ADO.NET standard and add important functionality such as Unicode and 32- and 64-bit support for high-performance computing environments on all platforms (Windows, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, MacOSX). SimbaEngine SDK is the only commercial Custom ODBC Driver SDK that supports Mac OSX.
SimbaEngine SDK 9.2 is the most scalable, performance-oriented and complete toolkit available for building ODBC drivers, JDBC drivers, OLE DB drivers and ADO.NET data providers for SQL-enabled and non-SQL data sources,” said Amyn Rajan, Simba-s CEO. “This latest release focuses heavily on enhancements to build even more robust data security and support for NoSQL Big Data Sources whether that be in Java or more traditionally C++. Unlike others, at Simba, we use our own SDK to build all of our drivers.”
