NEW YORK, NEW YORK — (Marketwired) — 10/28/13 — Strata Conference + Hadoop World 2013, Oct. 28th, 2013, Simba Technologies, the industry-s Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) expert for Hadoop and Big Data solutions, announced today that it has provided ODBC access to Cloudera CDH distribution customers. Based on Simba-s SimbaEngine SDK development environment, Cloudera recently released Cloudera ODBC Driver for Apache Hive (Version 2.5) and the Cloudera ODBC Driver for Apache Impala (Version 2.5) which will provide customers enhanced access to their data for Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics using the SQL-based application of their choice. Under the agreement, Cloudera CDH customers will have access rights to the connector.

ODBC is the most common data interface used by BI, data analysis and reporting applications. The ODBC 3.52 specification – on which drivers based on the SimbaEngine SDK is fully compliant – is the foundation for standards-based access. Simba Technologies co-developed ODBC in 1992 in collaboration with Microsoft and has been the most commonly used API for SQL ever since.
Unlike other drivers for Hive or Impala, Simba-s Hive and Impala ODBC Driver with SQL Connector performs the added task of mapping standard SQL-92 to HiveQL-thereby seamlessly integrating data residing in Hadoop with any SQL-based applications.
