SCOTTS VALLEY, CA — (Marketwired) — 10/17/13 — , the leader in security and compliance for virtualized and private cloud data centers, today announced that Randal Asay, former Director of Infrastructure Engineering at Wal-Mart®, has been appointed Chief Technology Officer. An expert and real-world practitioner in information strategy and architecture; network security; business and information risk management; and IT governance, Asay will be instrumental in the ongoing growth of vSecurity®, the industry-s first software-defined security solution.
“Randal Asay combines the vision and hands-on enterprise-scale virtual and cloud data center experience necessary to guide Catbird-s technical strategy,” said Edmundo Costa, CEO of Catbird. “At Wal-Mart, he planned and implemented communication and security mechanisms to protect highly sensitive data and operations on a global scale. He joins our team with technical abilities and a track record of leadership that few IT security experts can match. His experience and leadership will be immensely valuable as we continue to advance security for virtual and cloud environments.”
Prior to joining Catbird, Asay served as director of infrastructure engineering at Wal-Mart where he built a secure ecommerce platform on virtual infrastructure that supported billions of dollars in business and exponential capacity demands.
Asay-s breadth of experience included overseeing enhancements to perimeter and network security, along with overall policy enforcement. In addition to his leadership in information security, Randal led the ecommerce infrastructure teams through extensive growth as well as advancement in network design, storage capacity and database tuning. He will be bringing this thought-leadership to Catbird, building on the company-s already forward-looking approach to security and compliance for the cloud.
“For a long time I have been very impressed with Catbird-s demonstrated ability to deliver network security and compliance for virtualized and private cloud data centers,” said Asay. “My real-world experience convinces me that any organization migrating sensitive data to the cloud needs Catbird vSecurity. I look forward joining the team that has delivered such notable innovations in software-defined security.”
