City of New York-s NYC Business Solutions Posts Beginner-s Guide to Cyber Security

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwired) — 10/08/13 — Kalki Consulting LLC (), a dedicated cyber information security and risk management consultancy, announced that its “How-To Guide: Cyber Security” has been published on the City of New York-s Business Solutions web site.

The Department of Small Business Services site, part of the New York Mayor-s Office, provides free services that help businesses start, operate and expand in New York City whether the visitor is an entrepreneur, operating a small business or a large corporation. The program, available at , is the only data security guide currently available on the site.

The Kalki team developed the guide to identify information that needs protecting, motives behind attacks, impact on the businesses, and basic Do-s and Don-ts to help keep companies safe from potential attacks. It contains a Cyber Self Assessment businesses can use to determine how applicable cyber security is to their operations.

“As technology becomes more and more important for business, it is important that small business owners understand cyber security and how to keep their systems and information safe,” says Gregg Bishop, Deputy Commissioner of Business Development at the NYC Department of Small Business Services. “NYC Business Solutions Centers provide free services to small businesses in all five boroughs of NYC, and I thank Kalki for helping us put together and share this important information.”

“Kalki is pleased to give something back to the New York community and provide small business owners with the essential information they need about cyber security,” says Vikas Bhatia, founder and CEO of Kalki Consulting. “Often owners of small companies do not realize the financial impact of losing the information that is integral to their business. A lack of technical knowledge makes their businesses easier prey for the cyber criminals to steal, use and sell their information. Often when small companies are attacked, the personal information of the owners and staff is also stolen, putting the business and employees at greater risk of identity theft.”

Kalki is committed to helping clients in assessing, responding to and monitoring their regulatory compliance posture and cyber exposure to a security incident.
