MALVERN, PA — (Marketwired) — 09/23/13 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced that the company will be participating in the European Space Agency-s (ESA) Space Passive Component Days symposium, being held from Sept. 24-26 at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, South Holland. A supplier of passive components to the space market for more than 30 years, Vishay will be exhibiting a wide variety of its leading resistors, tantalum capacitors, and inductors at the event in booth #12.
Passive components represent more than 80 % of the EEE (electrical, electronic, and electromechanical) parts used in spacecraft. The Space Passive Component Days symposium is designed to promote discussion and exchange technical expertise and information among worldwide manufacturers, users, academia, and agencies involved in the disciplines related to EEE passive components, with the goal of improving the design, reliability, and safety of launchers, spacecraft, and space instruments.
“Vishay has been supplying qualified passive components to the space market since the early 1980s, beginning with leaded wirewound and metal film resistors,” said Dominique Vignolo, Global Product Marketing Manager, Vishay Sfernice Division. “As the market continued to evolve and the need for miniaturization increased, the company responded with high-reliability MINI-MELF and wraparound thin film and thick film chip resistors and networks. Today, Vishay offers all levels of qualification required by the space market, and its products can be found in almost any space project, including the Mars Rover; Globalstar, Galileo, and Iridium satellites; Ariane launchers; the International Space Station; and many more.”
At the Space Passive Component Days symposium, Vishay will be exhibiting a wide range of passive components approved to ESA, NASA, and AS9100 standards. Resistors on display will include high-reliability thin film and MINI-MELF devices with excellent load-life stability in extreme environmental conditions; leadless, hermetically sealed thin film networks; ESCC-approved wraparound resistor chips and networks; and military-qualified thin film, thick film, metal film, and wirewound resistors.
Highlighted tantalum capacitors will include through-hole, surface-mount, and high-energy wet tantalum devices; military-qualified tantalum chip capacitors; and high-reliability COTS devices in molded and conformal cases. Vishay will round out its passive components offering with its low-profile, high-current IHLP® inductors. In addition, the company will be showcasing n-channel power MOSFETs, rectifiers, and hermetically sealed Zener diodes.
On Sept. 24 from 2 to 2:30 p.m., Ms. Vignolo will present “Enlarging the Product Offering of Space-Qualified Resistors and Networks.” During the symposium-s dedicated poster session on the same day from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Michael L. Mosier, Sr. director, product marketing, Tantalum Capacitors at Vishay, will present the company-s new T16/DLA 13017 high-performance wet tantalum capacitors for space applications.
