In a recent pilot of the EDW-s new capabilities at (IU Health), Indiana-s most comprehensive healthcare system, Health Catalyst created a centralized repository of core clinical, financial and patient satisfaction information from across multiple IU Health hospitals in 90 days — a feat that IU Health CIO Bill McConnell called “unprecedented.” The resulting 14-billion-row data warehouse — representing more than 10 years of clinical, financial and patient satisfaction data — jump-started IU Health-s goal of using data to improve the quality of patient care while driving down cost.
The Health Catalyst 2.0 EDW not only speeds the creation of a client-s data warehouse but also accelerates, by a factor of eight, the process of acquiring and mapping metadata from a health system-s multiple transactional information systems. And the platform-s metadata-driven extract/transform/load (ETL) routines, which move the mapped data from transactional systems into the EDW, are an estimated 20 times faster than current methods of creating ETL routines.
