Scaling Up a PAS to Handle Huge Insurance Policy Database — Whitepaper From MphasiS Wyde Available

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — (Marketwired) — 07/17/13 — Can a modern handle a database with tens of millions of individual policies and thousands of group policies?

A new whitepaper from MphasiS Wyde answers key questions about scalability by detailing the results of an exacting benchmark test.

MphasiS Wyde-s PAS, , was tested on a database of 40 million individual policies and 17,000 group policies. Policies included group supplemental insurance plans and individual life, health and disability worksite policies configured according to a major insurance company-s specifications.

The test covered backend transactions typically processed by end-users, such as issuance, endorsements and renewals, with a load of 400 concurrent users. It also simulated straight-through processing for group and individual enrollments.

CSS Corp., an independent testing organization, oversaw testing and load and automation scripting, and provided analysis and reporting.

MphasiS Wyde first created an enormous simulated policyholder database that truly represented the insurer-s book of business so that simulated users could process typical transactions.

The whitepaper details steps taken to tune the hardware and software for top performance.

Wynsure passed: some 74% of transactions in the final benchmark had a response time under 750 milliseconds and 85% had response time within 1 second. Only 1% of user transactions took 1.5 seconds or more.

The test also successfully simulated STP for group and individual enrollments. Average response time for an individual subscription was 744 ms. With group enrolment, it averaged 870 ms.

Some 32,934 transactions ran without a single failure.

“Benchmarking gave the MphasiS Wyde team valuable information on how to make Wynsure run fast and nimbly with a huge policyholder database of both individual and group policies,” said MphasiS Wyde technical director Christopher Goetze.
