CAMPBELL, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/29/13 — Exalt Communications, Inc., the leading innovator of next-generation packet microwave backhaul systems, today announced that Cruzio Internet, Santa Cruz County-s oldest and largest Internet service provider (ISP) and long-standing customer of Exalt, has deployed a high-speed microwave link between Kaiser Permanente Arena, home of the Santa Cruz Warriors basketball team, and the Cruzio network operations center in downtown Santa Cruz, California. The link enables live streaming video of Warriors basketball games on the Internet so fans can watch the home games no matter where the fans happen to be.
A development league team for the Golden State Warriors professional basketball team, the Santa Cruz Warriors just finished their inaugural season in the new Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz. “From the beginning, we wanted to make streaming video of the home games available to our fans to build up local support and to show our commitment to the community,” said Jim Weyermann, vice president of new franchise development for the Golden State Warriors and president of the Santa Cruz Warriors. “Cruzio and Exalt delivered a reliable, high-performance connection between the arena and the core network that enables anyone to watch games on any Internet-enabled device. It-s been an extremely successful offering to our fans.”
The link between the arena and Cruzio-s facility is an Exalt ExtendAir 24 GHz, 100-megabits-per-second system. The choice of Exalt for the link was a no-brainer for Cruzio, which has long relied on Exalt gear in its network. “We-re using Exalt links in all of our backhaul and infrastructure-grade links at this point,” said James Hackett, business development manager at Cruzio. “We-re an independent ISP and we-re aiming to build a highly reliable wireless fiber network, so we want to use the most reliable and high-performance equipment we can get, and that-s why we choose Exalt.”
There were only 90 days between the City Council-s final approval of the arena project and the opening of the season. Using a local Internet service provider who uses familiar equipment was a key factor in getting the link up and running in time for the season.
“Our partners at Cruzio are building one of the best local wireless fiber networks in the country using Exalt systems,” said Greg Gum, Exalt senior vice president of marketing and business development. “Independent service providers like Cruzio know that deploying carrier-class systems from Exalt in their networks is the ticket to growing a robust installed base of commercial customers like the Golden State Warriors. We are pleased to be part of the solution used to connect Warriors fans with their team when they play at the Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz.”
Exalt Communications provides next-generation packet microwave backhaul systems to mobile operators, broadband service providers, government agencies, and enterprises worldwide. Exalt wireless systems are used most often as a complement or cost-effective alternative to fiber. They also have been inherently designed to support the rapid build out of the 4G/LTE mobile Internet infrastructure driven by ever growing user-generated traffic and fueled by the accelerated adoption rate of smartphones and tablets.
