HARRISBURG, PA — (Marketwired) — 04/17/13 — According to , cloud-based computing is very much the wave of the future, both in corporate IT as well as in personal computing — and in many ways, he says, the new Google Chromebook Pixel is a big step toward making that future a present-day reality. To illustrate his point, the technology expert points to a recent article on the Chromebook, which notes the technology-s limitations but also affirms its role as a truly groundbreaking new device. Murthy has issued a new statement to the press, commenting on the new Google innovation.
Google-s Chromebook Pixel has won many rave reviews — and perhaps a few words of detraction — for its totally unique operating methodology. Breaking from traditional software completely, the Chromebook Pixel runs entirely on Web-based apps, some of which work offline and some of which do not.
Wired notes that the new device is a potential game-changer for cloud-based computing, but it comes with its pros and cons. The big advantage that it offers is a full terabyte of cloud storage — which, as Wired makes clear, may well prove sufficient for tempting consumers to abandon their old laptops and desktops in favor of this all-new model. The big downside, the article notes, is the price; retailing at $1299, the Chromebook Pixel is significantly pricier than something like an iPad or a Surfce RT.
“I have always believed that the success of innovation lies in its ubiquitous adoption,” opines Phaneesh Murthy, in his new press statement. “One really can-t hold premium onto a consumer-level innovation. Google has got it right that way and has really taken innovation to a different level, even keeping many of its Web-based products free to use. With Google-s Chromebook, I really hope Cloud Computing becomes more and more adoptable in the coming years at a consumer level as well as a corporate level, addressing all the needs of security, storage and ease of retrieval.”
Wired does indeed note that the Chromebook signifies broader computing trends, with more and more developers and manufacturers focusing on light and lean personal computers and tablets that take full advantage of cloud technology. Consumers, likewise, are coming to favor these light-weight, cloud-friendly computing options over more traditional desktops and laptops.
