SANTA CLARA, CA — (Marketwire) — 02/26/13 — To ensure that organizations are able to securely make use of their growing volumes of data MarkLogic Corporation today announced that it will deliver an enterprise-grade application and analytics software solution to unlock the power of Big Data based on the Intel® Distribution for Apache Hadoop software (Intel® Distribution). The Intel Distribution will work seamlessly with the MarkLogic Enterprise NoSQL (not only SQL) database to enable real-time transactional and analytic applications.
MarkLogic will distribute and support the Intel Distribution — the first to provide full encryption with support of Intel® AES New Instructions (Intel® AES-NI) in the Intel® Xeon® processor. The combination of the MarkLogic database and the Intel Distribution ensures that customers can benefit from MarkLogic Enterprise NoSQL database features — such as ACID transactions, role-based security, integrated full-text and geospatial search, and the flexibility of a granular document data model for real-time applications — while also leveraging the first silicon-based encryption support of the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS).
“Customers put a great deal of value on enterprise requirements like security and high availability, and we are excited to work with Intel to deliver a Hadoop solution capable of addressing today-s data challenges without compromising security or performance,” said Gary Bloom, CEO and president of MarkLogic. “The combination of the MarkLogic-s role-based security and enterprise features with encryption, networking and IO optimizations in the Intel Distribution mean that our customers can securely and cost-effectively manage, analyze and use huge data sets to their greatest potential.”
MarkLogic is unique among NoSQL database providers in that only MarkLogic supports ACID transactions, automatic failover, replication, journaling, clustering, database rollback, point-in-time recovery, and out-of-the-box integration with business intelligence (BI) tools. MarkLogic is also unique in providing a full role-based security system that has been validated in accordance with the provisions of the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) for IT Security.
MarkLogic® Server can run directly on the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) enabling a fluid mix of data between operational and analytic workloads. Users can store data, indexes, and journals across a mixture of local (RAM, HDD, and SSD), SAN, and HDFS-based storage. Segregating data across different storage and computation tiers lets users optimize cost, performance, availability, and flexibility. MapReduce running in situ on data in the MarkLogic database can leverage MarkLogic-s granular security model to restrict analytic jobs to only the data they are entitled to, which is critical for many government and enterprise applications.
“As Hadoop enters new markets with growing adoption in segments like financial services and federal governments, organizations want to trust the Apache Hadoop platform with all their data without compromising any of its performance,” said Girish Juneja, general manager, Intel-s Big Data Software. “The combination of hardware-enabled encryption in the Intel Distribution with the role-based security in the MarkLogic database provides organizations with a robust platform that provides the assurance that their data is protected without slowing down the analytics.”

® MarkLogic also announced the new MarkLogic® Deployment Accelerator for Hadoop designed to jump-start projects that integrate the MarkLogic Enterprise NoSQL database and Hadoop. The offering will provide clients with technical direction, deliver architecture and design documents, and provide hands-on implementation support to get an initial prototype up and running.
