BOSTON, MA — (Marketwire) — 02/04/13 — Smart Lunches, one of the Internet-s fastest-growing providers of healthy meals for children outside of the home, announced today that it has signed its one hundredth partner facility: Inly School, a Montessori-based preschool through middle school in Scituate, Massachusetts. The Inly School represents the first of a series of planned partnerships on the South Coast of Massachusetts, home state for Smart Lunches. The firm is excited about its future prospects as it launches only its 2nd calendar year of operations.
“The Smart Lunches meal service fills a real need in our families- busy schedules — but more importantly, good nutrition also supports our philosophy of inspiring students to make good choices. And without taking on the responsibility and expense of an in-house lunch program, we-ve become more competitive in building our student body while expanding good lunch options for our staff, too,” said Donna Luther, head of the Inly School.
Smart Lunches, which closed its first venture round of funding in August 2012, is already serving thousands of lunches every week, and has expanded to reach schools well beyond its Boston base. Meal partners include camps, high schools, nursery schools, and 33 Bright Horizons centers. The company contracts directly with parents at these schools, and gives back a share of its revenues to its partner institutions.
“Our fast ramp in teaming up with schools of all types, sizes, and student ages is proof that our focus on convenient, tasty nutrition is touching true unmet needs — both for families and schools,” commented Emily Green, Smart Lunches- CEO. “We brought on more than double the number of partners we-d targeted for 2012. Business grew on average over 40% month-over-month throughout 2012, and we have a lot teed up for 2013, including our first office building service and the launch of our subscription feature.”
The company-s first subscription offering, called SmartPass — is now available for a pilot group of partner schools. Parents can select delicious lunches for three months- worth of service in less than 5 minutes.
Smart Lunches is expanding to Western Massachusetts this spring and is planning to launch in additional cities later in 2013. “Clearly there-s a strong appetite for our model and service across the state,” notes Green. “We look forward to replicating our success here to other regions across the country.”
