Nagios Conference in Italy a huge success – Organizer Würth Phoenix brings 400 visitors from all over Europe and the US to Italy

With regards to contents, the organizational teams of Würth Phoenix placed emphasis on the topics IT monitoring and preventive problem solutions with intelligent software systems. Renowned international speakers ensured a many-sided agenda, which was mainly directed to a broad audience of businessmen and engineers.

Nagios founder Ethan Galstad introduced the technical innovation of his worldwide established monitoring standard Nagios. Relaible solutions for more system stability in the IT business should not engulf massive budgets for licensing costs, said Mr. Galstad. Jan Josephson highlighted the internationally growing request of Open Source software solutions in the business area. The founder of the Swedish service provider op5 referred mainly to the strong market position in the Scandinavian countries. The mix of Open Source projects and commercial services has long stood the test. Finally Luca Deri from the University of Pisa suggested some precious tips for practicing IT monitoring. He spoke of the application areas of his worldwide used monitoring program ntop.

Insights from the development community were performed by Michael Medin from Sweden and Reinhard Scheck from Germany. They provided a review into the development focus of Nagios and Cacti directing their speech mainly to advanced users. Spokespersons of famous industrial companies, like the Savio ITEMA Group, talked about choice and implementation of Open Source solutions in worldwide acting enterprises.

In addition to the lectures which were followed by direct feedbacks from the audience, a panel discussion followed. Experts as well as visitors interchanged opinions on possibilities and future scenarios of a stronger cooperation between Open Source Projects and Proprietary Producers like Microsoft, HP or IBM.

„The topics of this conference meet obviously a request. There is no other explanation to the fact that the visitors number doubled in comparison to the previous year. Ethan Galstad has also mentioned in his speech that we have grown into the biggest event worldwide on these topics“, says Hubert Kofler, CEO of Würth Phoenix.
The positive feedback of the visitors sees that the organizers has already started preparing the next event, planned for May 2011. „The first-class event agenda convinced me. It showed the variety of the Open Source projects and community members in a very impressive way“, says a visitor, who came especially from Miami to Bolzano/Italy.
