A change for the better
“Not user-friendly, no further development, too many isolated applications“, Florian Köhler sums up the main reasons why a change had to be made to their business software. As the Assistant to CEO, he warmly welcomes the migration of the ERP-System to their enterprise. Technical Director Dieter Bort adds, “With the old system, it was very difficult to apply changes and adjustments, which is inevitable to a manufacturer of serial and custom made products. In our field of business, we have to be able to make proper changes to the software on short notice.“ RSG formed a selection team of inner experts to find a new software solution for their company. First, a list of possible ERP-providers was created based on information that has been gathered online, at trade fairs and informational events. The team decided to give four providers a closer look. Every company had the chance to present their products and solutions at the RSG headquarters in Ingelfingen, Germany. ABAS, with their abas Business Software, left such a good impression, that the decision was made easily. Florian Köhler explains, “The abas Business Software is the most complete solution. It provides the flexibility we need and can be upgraded easily and promptly as soon as a new release is available. Now we can benefit from future technological progress quite simply, which really has been a convincing argument.“
Sharpen your system
RSG is assisted by the ABAS Informationsysteme GmbH. “At the start, we transferred our old system to the new abas Business Software without changes.“, remembers Florian Köhler of the new software‘s introduction. “This is easily possible due to the abas system‘s flexibility. Later on, we realized that the suggested implementation method would have been better. This way, you implement the system in a standard way, to shape and sharpen all the in-house and overlapping processes to an optimum afterwards. Eventually, that‘s what we did. The good thing about our new ERP System is the opportunity to tweak and adjust workflows and processes any time without losing the upgradeability. Now we are always able to benefit from our system to a maximum.“
Commercial Director Werthwein gives examples, “The order and production proposals at the warehouse have been used 6 months after we went live. Until the beginning of 2008, we had two different companies that have been separately controlled in our IT-System. Thanks to the abas Business Software, we were able to combine both, the companies and the company‘s business software.“
This is very beneficial, “The whole order processing is installed in the abas ERP. Now we can determine delivery dates ad hoc and confirm them as well. Ever since, our delivery reliability has been increased and the lead time has been decreased. The productivity is enhanced.“
Kanban? – Not a problem to the ERP System
“You have to take your time to understand the philosophy behind the ERP-Software,“ Rainer Werthwein states excitedly. “Then you will be aware of the software‘s full potential. RSG produces small production series with 1-10.000 units. Unavoidably, there are many product innovations, which we can always indicate in our ERP System. That supports our internal continuous improvement process. Our consignment warehouse is based on the Kanban-System and is administrated by the ERP-System as well. We are confident, that we are perfectly equipped to meet all future requirements in our business software.“
