YOKOHAMA, JAPAN — (Marketwire) — 01/08/13 — Silvaco Japan Co., Ltd. (Silvaco) has announced that it has won a competitive bid to have its ATLAS device simulator used for the development of silicon nanowire solar cells from the Konagai and Miyajima Laboratory in the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Silvaco-s ATLAS simulation software will be used at the Fukushima Top-level United center for Renewable Energy research – PhotoVoltaics Innovation (FUTURE-PV) project with additional support provided by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
ATLAS is widely used by many companies, universities, and research and development centers as it enables reliable simulations for many different devices, and provides 2D and 3D electrical, optical and thermal physical models needed for accurate simulation of solar cells. Konagai and Miyajima Lab is a leading developer of solar cells, and predictable simulations are indispensable to the design of new and optimized solar cell structures.
Shinsuke Miyajima, Associate Professor of Konagai and Miyajima Lab, said, “ATLAS includes many functions required for silicon nanowire solar cell simulations, especially in the field of quantum effects. Modeling these quantum effects is critical for the development of advanced technology devices such as silicon nanowires. We are confident that ATLAS will help speed up our development program.”
“We are pleased with the adoption of ATLAS in this nationally important project,” said David Halliday, CEO of Silvaco. “We believe the use of ATLAS will accelerate this leading edge research, and we are proud that Silvaco continues to contribute to important projects such as this.”
