Steelwedge Webinar Unveils “Agility Gap” Research From Supply Chain Insights

PLEASANTON, CA — (Marketwire) — 05/14/12 — , the leader in will host a tomorrow with founder, Lora Cecere, who will unveil results of a new study about supply chain agility and the role of S&OP in improving organizational capabilities to sense and respond.

Ms. Cecere, supply chain analyst, researcher and author of forthcoming book, Bricks Matter, will share insights from a study she conducted in April with more than 100 Supply Chain leaders. Her research, “How S&OP Drives Agility” explores the definition of business agility, its importance and the processes and tools used to deliver better responsiveness and results in an ever-changing global market.

“The industry is maturing in its understanding of agility,” said Cecere. “In this survey, 97% realize that it is about more than speed and supply chain cycle-time reduction; nothing can be gained by doing the wrong things faster. Instead, a deliberate approach is needed to break through the brittleness in the supply chain that has emerged from too much focus on strength and not enough on flexibility.”

Highlights of the research include:

89% said that supply chain agility was important to their business success. Yet, only 27% feel they are good at responding to shifts in the market — creating a significant (62% point) “agility gap” between the importance of agility and the actual performance.

87% of respondents use S&OP process to manage change, bringing together stakeholders- plans from across sales, supply, production and finance. 34% are also tapping S&OP technology solutions. There is a strong correlation between a mature S&OP process and supply chain agility.

Steelwedge customers, including 100-year-old Contech Engineered Solutions — a leader in construction products — are setting the bar for agility in their businesses today. Randy Ramsey, director of supply chain at Contech says, “Agility is the name of the game. Having a planning process and system nimble enough to help us respond opportunistically to unplanned spikes in demand — making the demand plan irrelevant — is how we compete and grow market share.”
