SOUTH POLE, ANTARCTICA — (Marketwire) — 01/17/12 —
SocialTyze is proud to back Grant Korgan-s incredible and inspiring journey to become the first adaptive athlete to travel to the South Pole. On Jan 7th, Grant and his team of 6 began their ten-day, 100-mile trek across some of the most inhospitable terrain on Earth.
They expect to arrive at the South Pole on January 17th, 100 years after the first expeditions took place.
Grant-s influential story to overcome a severe back injury began in March 2010, when he fractured his L1 vertebrae while snowmobiling in the Sierra backcountry. He has been a world-class kayaker, skier, and snowmobiler.
Grant has approached his road to recovery with the same resolve that he has relied on his entire life. On January 17, 2012, Grant-s goal is to leave his sit-ski behind and take on the personal challenge of walking the final steps to the South Pole!
SocialTyze-s Managing Director, John Bohan, is communicating with Grant and his team by satellite phone each day of their journey. These conversations will be uploaded to , which documents the team-s status as they close in on the South Pole.
